Dirt

Blue Line Transfer

Construction and landscaping materials such as bricks, dirt, sod, rock, concrete, sheetrock, and sand (or sandbags) can’t go inside any standard garbage, recycling or organics collection cart or bin. They can’t be collected through the On-Call Cleanup Program either. They are too heavy and require special handling and processing. They may be self-hauled to Blue Line Transfer or collected using a roll-off box (fees apply).

Ways to Reuse

Backyard Projects

Keep leftover dirt to use for future backyard projects, such as raised garden beds or fixing low spots in your yard. You can store dirt in a few sturdy storage bins — just keep the bins out of the elements and direct sunlight.

Give It Away

Friends or neighbors may be in need of dirt for their own home projects. Consider posting your dirt on a local reselling website or app such as Nextdoor, Craigslist, Freecycle, or OfferUp. You can also try DirtMatch, an online dirt exchange connecting people who have dirt with people who need dirt.
